Teacher Appreciation Ideas for Elementary-School Students

Here are a few great ideas for kids and parents to celebrate their teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week (the first full week in May).

1. Make a Bouquet of Thanks
Your child can color and cut flowers out of paper, then write a word of thanks on each flower. Help him come up with words that compliment and best describe his teacher. Remind him of words that will make his teacher feel good, like:

Thank you so much!
You're great!
You taught me a lot!
You make school fun!
I'm glad you're my teacher!

2. Give a Report Card
Your child can make her teacher a thank-you card that looks like a report card. Include areas for "grading" such as:

Makes Class Fun
Helps Me Learn a Lot
Smiles Every Day

Grade teachers with the same phrases they use:
Super!
Great Job!
Hard Worker!

3. Do Five Nice Things
Your children can pledge to do five things, one each day, during Teacher Appreciation Week. Help them choose realistic activities, like:

Help my teacher put away supplies.
Clean out a classroom closet.
Draw a special picture.

4. Give a Heartfelt Gift
Buy a thoughtful gift for your teacher on your own, or pitch in with other parents to create a themed gift basket (such as a breakfast-themed or beach-themed basket the teacher will enjoy).

5. Write a Simple Thank-You Note
Many teachers will tell you that a simple handwritten thank-you note from parents and students is the sweetest gesture of all. These printable thank-you cards for teachers are perfect for Teacher Appreciation Week.
