Kick-Start Summer Learning: 5 Motivation Strategies for Kids with LD

Summer Learning Tips for LD, envelopes containing rewards for summer learning

And the Envelope, Please?

Write some learning goals onto sealed envelopes containing either a dollar bill, a movie ticket, or a coupon for some fun activity. Make the prize appropriate for the task, and within your budget. Put the envelopes away somewhere. When your child has reached one of the learning goals, she can open that envelope and recieve the prize.

For older kids, put some bigger ticket items in envelopes, but also put some smaller prizes, like "5 more minutes!" coupons that kids can use at any time during the school year (for TV shows, video games, talking on the phone, or going on Facebook). Kids can pick a prize out of a bag after completing a learning activity.
