Career Planning Program

College/Career Expert Advice from Del Antaki

Question: My 12-year-old son is interested in a career in journalism. He is currently the sports editor on his school paper. He has a 4.0 average and is in the gifted program at school. I'm interested in setting up a career-planning program for children in middle school and high school. Do you have any ideas?

Answer: Your interest in working to develop a career-planning program is commendable. It's very important that students have the opportunity to learn about career options. To start, I would recommend talking with a school counselor to determine what programs already exist in your area and where there is room for improvement. You will want to talk with elected leaders and business people in your community to get their input and to solicit support as well. This is a great idea. Good luck!
