Steamy Experiment

This science experiment will teach your child about evaporation and condensation.

Steamy Experiment

Materials

  1. Teakettle
  2. Metal saucepan lid
  3. Water

Directions

Boil water in the teakettle, being careful that your child does not touch the kettle or the steam as it comes out. Turn the heat to low when the water boils. As the steam comes out of the spout, hold the saucepan lid in front of it. Point out how the steam turns into water once it touches the lid. Recount how the water in the kettle turns into steam and then turns back into water again. Find other examples of condensation for your child to notice, such as drops of water on the bathroom window or breath on a cold glass.
