Dawdling Dresser

Time

  • 10 to 15 minutes

Materials

  • Clothes

Directions

Dressing can be one of the most challenging areas for young children when it comes to self-control. Try telling the dawdler to pick a color and give directions accordingly. For example, say, "You can put on anything that goes on the legs and feet and I will do the rest."

Extensions

  • Think up ways to dress together, such as alternating the selection of clothing to put on, so there is a sense of accomplishment when finished.
  • Pick a day (when you aren't going anywhere important) and agree that you will pick your child's clothes and they can pick yours.
  • Rotate clothes to limit choices and make it easier to decide.
  • Dress together, talking about your choices.
