Description: True story of the friendship between New Yorker writer Joseph Mitchell and bohemian club regular Joe Gould in New York City during the 1940s and 1950s. Gould held no job but depended on friends and well-wishers and their contributions to "the Joe Gould Fund." After Mitchell wrote about him in The New Yorker, Gould became a minor celebrity. Their relationship grew more intense over the years as Mitchell became the keeper of Joe Gould's secret.
