Celebrating Martin Luther King Day

Community Service

In recent years, the focus of the King holiday has broadened to include an emphasis on service to the community. This turn of events would certainly have met with agreement from the man whose memory the day celebrates; as King was fond of saying, “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.”

This increasingly popular theme for the day is captured in the slogan, “Remember! Celebrate! Act! A day on, not a day off!”
