Homeschooling in Florida

Homeschooling Expert Advice from Isabel Shaw

Q: I live in Florida and plan to homeschool my son. How do I get started, and whom do I notify?

A: The Florida Parent Educators Association (www.fpea.com) has a very comprehensive listing of all the requirements for Florida homeschoolers. Be sure to review their publication, "The Guide To Homeschooling in Florida."

I would also do additional reading about homeschooling. The Homeschooling Book of Answers by Linda Dobson is an excellent guide for new homeschooling families, as is The Beginner's Guide to Homeschooling by Patrick Farenga. For step-by-step advice, try The First Year of Homeschooling Your Child: Your Complete Guide to Getting off to the Right Start also by Linda Dobson.
