The Real Cost of College

College/Career Expert Advice from Del Antaki

Question: I'm looking for an estimate of how much college costs, including all living expenses.

Answer: A good strategy is to sit down with your son or daughter and brainstorm about all of her financial needs. Possible categories are the cost of books and materials, travel expenses, phone bills, and other utilities. Once you have a solid list, begin to research the costs in more detail.

The particular college your child is interested in will be able to provide basic information on some of these expenses. You may also want to talk with friends who have kids in college to find out about the costs that they have incurred. You are wise to be planning carefully. Good luck as you work through this process.
