North Pacific Gray Whale Migrations: Summers in Alaska

During their summer feeding months in the Bering and Chukchi Seas off Alaska, gray whales gain about 16% to 30% of their total body weight. They eat a daily average of 2,400 pounds of food!

It's nice to know that our friends the gray whales are doing very well these days: In 1994, they were removed from the Endangered Species List because of the rebound in their population; it is the only marine mammal to have been removed from this list.
