The Monarch's Metamorphosis: Caterpillar

Ever wonder how caterpillars spend their time? They eat. And eat and eat. And of course they grow a great deal. They shed their skin four or five times as they grow. It's a process called molting and it happens because their skin can't accomodate their rapid growth. You may notice their shed skins on host milkweed plants. After the catepillar has molted a number of times, it searches for a place to hang out and form its final skin, which is called a pupa.
